While we relish a little victory last night and admire the courage of Sens. Collins, Murkowski, and McCain, we can’t forget the impact of all those thousands and thousands of people who visited the offices of federal officials and/or called and wrote them. They’re the real heroes.
Protests held by people in wheelchairs were tear-inducing as we saw them shackled and carted off under arrest. They were literally fighting for their lives. And ours.
Those protests didn’t happen this week or last. They have been ongoing for months since the Orange Monstrosity and his band of heartless mercenaries gained control over our government and all the power it represents. So impactful have they been that most Republican Congressional members don’t hold town hall meetings fearing them and their common sense questions or remarks.
We need to remind ourselves of our own power — the power to work together to achieve a common end. There are many, many more of “us” that there are of them no matter how powerful and overwhelming they may seem.
So let’s hold up a glass and toast our fellow activists for all the phone calls, emails, letters, and just plain sign-carrying, boots on the ground efforts that led to the success last night.
So, just a short reminder of People Power. Keep up the great work.
