The Wisconsin Primary is August 9 and multiple candidates have been vying for the job of defeating the Worlds Dumbest Senator, Ron Johnson (R-Yours if You’re a Big Money Donor). A few days ago, Tom Nelson, running at the bottom of polls, dropped out and endorsed frontrunner Mandela Barnes. Today, Alex Lasry did the same.
In a stunning move with less than two weeks before the primary, Milwaukee Bucks executive Alex Lasry on Wednesday dropped out of the Democratic U.S. Senate race after having spent more than $12.3 million on the contest.
In an interview with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Lasry said he's endorsing the front runner, Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes."Mandela won this race," Lasry said.
Lasry has packed the airwaves with ads. His first burst did little to move his poll numbers. His recent flurry of ads has been running for weeks and significantly improved his poll standing.
Lasry is the son of the man who recently bought the Milwaukee Bucks and then insisted that we build him a shiny new arena for his team or he’d move them elsewhere. He got his new arena. Alex Lasry has been serving as the VP for the team since his father bought it. Prior to that, he didn’t live in Wisconsin and had no ties to the state.
I personally found it offensive that the multimillionaire son of a billionaire who just moved to the state to help manage his fathers’ sports team would have the gall to even consider running for major office, much less believe he could buy an election with millions in ads. Barnes, trying to save his campaign funds for the general election against Ron Johnson was forced to buy ads for the primary election.
Ron Johnson and his Big Money donors aren’t going to have any financial problems buying every minute of ad time they can to lie and deceive voters and I know, based on history, that the dark money forces will run even more shadowy, lying ads. Barnes needed everything he had (and more) to counter the lies and deceit.
Lasry made the right decision. Apparently Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin, along with poll numbers showing that he still trailed Barnes, convinced him to do the right thing. I thank him for that although it’s pretty late since early and absentee voting has already started.
